Tuesday Preview - CQT Episode 18

Welcome to the Tuesday Preview.

This week's episode of Canadian Quilt Talk features Mary Sullivan  Holdgrafer. She is a Creativity and Meaning Coach at the Haven on Gabriola Island. I chatted with her briefly after our Fibre Art Network retreat on the island and she had some fascinating things to say about creativity as a means of personal growth and healing.

Canadian Quilt Talk Episode 018
Mary Sullivan Holdgrafer

Here's a a snapshot of Mary's 8" x 10" challenge piece with the theme of sanctuary for the Fibre Art Network Retreat. She is a brilliant contemporary quilt artist and this is just a tiny sample. You wouldn't know unless you've seen her previous work, but this tiny quilt is a seriously calm colour scheme for Mary compared to her usual vibrant art quilts and to her friends at the retreat it just hit the theme perfectly.

In my own person journey, although it was not a planned thing, I look back and see my transition from firefighting to quilt professional as an incredible healing journey entirely facilitated through quilting. So I just jumped on the opportunity to share Mary's passion for healing through stitches.

AND I know I mentioned that this week's prize for the weekly Quilter's Corner is a 1 year subscription to Quilters' Connection magazine. It's such a great prize and I can't wait to give it away, but this week I'm going to tell a little Quilter's Corner story from my own life and I'll explain why I've posted this little penguin photo - so I'll save that prize for now. Get your story in for a chance to win it next week! It's such a great magazine!

And DON'T FORGET - It's the last Thursday of the month so at the end of this week's episode we'll have our segment of the Gentle Judge and our question will be answered by not only one, but three CQA Certified Judges!

Until next time . . . dream big and work hard in the studio with CanadianQuilt Talk!

A feature on The Quilt Show blog!

Hi everyone!

I was so excited to check out The Quilt Show blog today with Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson to find out that my art quilt After the Fire - Self Portrait was chosen as the Quilt of the Day yesterday!

Since I posted it in the TQS gallery earlier this year I have received dozens of comments on this particular piece. I'm grateful because that tells me that I was able to portray the struggle. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to say something nice.

Are you curious about my story? A Quilter's Journey - from Firefighter to Quilt Professional is my trunk show and I'd love to visit your community to talk to your guild. I'm very proud of this art quilt because it marked a transition for me from one career to another. Here are a few detail shots of the Canadian Flag shoulder flash and the facial features.

If you are interested in booking a trunk show and teaching event for your local guild, just head on over to the Brandy Lynn Designs website for more information. And if you haven't checked out the Quilt Show online, they have web shows, a blog, contests and more quilting content than you can ever imagine. Check out www.thequiltshow.com today!
