Small Kennel Quilts Team
CQT Episode 28

Have you ever stopped to consider what happens to pets during a natural disaster? Well The Quilt Pattern Magazine (TQPM) has a staff member who really takes saving pets in a disaster to heart and she is their Marketing Director, Nan Baker. Nan is the inspiration behind the Small Kennel Quilts Team. They invite quilters to make small quilts to send to an area in disaster. A small kennel quilt is such a quick, achievable project for any quilter that could really make a difference to a pet in need, and a great way to practice new piecing and quilting techniques. Click on TQPM Small Kennel Quilt Team to find out size suggestions, free patterns and more.

When faced with the notion that some people think it's JUST a pet, Nan says, "When you care for pets in a natural disaster, you CARE for people."

AND this week's winner of the Quilter's Corner is Carli Heinrichs. Her story fits right in to the idea of giving back to your community and you can visit her blog at www.goodearthquilting.blogspot.ca

Congratulations Carli! You have won, not just one, but THREE gorgeous pdf patterns by Nan Baker of Purrfect Spots. Here's a great collage of the 3 different patterns.

Kristy's Quilt
The Picture Book Project

Join us this week for our 27th Episode of Canadian Quilt Talk as we discuss the brand new children's picture book called Kristy's Quilt. You can be the first to get your hands on a copy before it hits the store shelves this spring. Here's how it works…

1. UNDERSTAND OUR GOAL: To engage a youthful generation of quilters by publishing the book and getting it into the hands of children.

2. BACK THE PROJECT: Valentine's Day (FEB. 14TH).

3. GET YOUR BOOK AND REWARDS before it's in stores this spring.

Kristy's Quilt is a heartwarming quilt adventure based on a true story. This children's book features 10 year old Kristy, a spunky little quilter, who blossoms at the In Stitches Quilting Retreat.
A book for ages 2 - 92.

Illustrations by Marcia Stacy
Kristy's Quilt is a Kickstarter project, which is crowdfunding. If you haven't heard of it, check out 7 Things to Know About Kickstarter.  It's a really cool concept.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE in creating a youthful generation of quilters by supporting this project. Our plain and simple goal is to publish the book and get it into the hands of children. I would really love your support and here's what you can do:

1. LISTEN TO CANADIAN QUILT TALK this week to learn more about the story and why it is so important to share quilting with a younger generation.

2. MARK FEBRUARY 14th ON YOUR CALENDAR and back the project at the rewards level of your choice.

3. SHARE THE KRISTY'S QUILT PROJECT on your blog, or anywhere you play on social media, but BEST OF ALL by word of mouth to your friends.

Kristy's Quilt has been a "big picture" goal of mine for 4 years and I'm asking you to help take me there, but it's not about me at all. It's about quilters sharing quilting for generations to come.  Please circle Feb. 14th on your calendar to support our project and get the word out about Kristy's Quilt.

And now for the winner of THE WEEKLY QUILTER'S CORNER!

Congratulations to JESSICA LANGLOIS! Jessica shares her finest memory of quilting as a child which ties right into our theme of sharing quilting with a younger generation. CONGRATULATIONS JESSICA - You have won a $25 gift certificate to the online fabric shop - Quilt Stash Squared.

Our prize for this week's Quilter's Corner is brought to you by Quilt Stash Squared - The Quilter's Community Stash Shopping Project for quilters, fabric lovers, story-tellers and artisans. Check out their online fabric shop at www.quiltstashsquared.com.

Scrumptious Smoothie Recipe

This week on the CQT podcast I mentioned our favourite smoothie as a part of eating healthy food choices rather than, chips, cookies and junk food. So here it is….

1 cup of ice
2 apples, peeled and chopped
2 bananas
1 cup frozen fruit (strawberries or mangoes)
1 cup of fruit juice (your favourite -we love mango)
2 heaping tbsps rainbow sorbet

Place it all in a blender in that order and blend until smooth. For no sugar you can replace the sorbet with yogurt or sugar free ice cream - but with my family, this is a winner every time.

Eat well, feel well!
