Tuesday Preview - Canadian Quilt Talk Episode # 75

Happy Tuesday everyone! Join me this week on Canadian Quilt Talk for my 75th episode as I interview long arm quilter and all around crafty gal Elizabeth Ruth of www.theruthlesscrafter.com We'll talk about what led her to quilting, her tips for having your first quilt stitched by a professional long arm quilter and more...

Inspired by the quilting stories of the women on her husband's side of the family, Elizabeth started quilting for her own little ones in 2009. Her very first quilt was an ambitious queen sized quilt for her tiny son. She is a lovely example of a quilt professional who has fallen head over heels for long arm quilting and over the past 6 years she has created a storm of activity in her studio learning lessons along the way. She'll be sharing her story and a few wonderful tips along the way.

And now for the winner of this week's Quilter's Corner - Jan Keuster! And the very cool thing about Jan is that she is my very first winner from Hawaii. It is a nice surprise that I have listeners there considering I am going there this fall on the Aloha Quilt Cruise. I hope you'll join me. The prize this week is pretty adorable! Jan will receive 4 crocheted coffee mug cozies from www.theruthlesscrafter.com. She may not need them quite as much as us Canadians here in the frigid cold, but there must be a cool or rainy season in Hawaii where you could use something to warm your hands around a good cup of Joe.

And the final note for today . . . Join me and Cathy Miller, The Singing Quilter this fall for the 15-day Aloha Quilt Cruise sponsored by Janome. Includes 8 FULL DAYS of quilting workshops! Prices start as low as $2280 based on double occupancy.

As a member of the Fibre Art Network she has been encouraged, motivated and inspired by an incredible group of fine artists. Jaynie Himsl - Fibre Artist
Working with fabric has been a part of Jaynie’s life since childhood. Constructing clothes and home furnishings was her main focus for many years. Here's the list of exciting events Jaynie is involved with if you happen to be driving through Saskatchewan this summer:

Welcome to the Tuesday Preview. Have you ever been to a CQA/ACC National Juried Show? There is so much to take in that it can just be the greatest adventure and a perfect reason to hit the road with a few friends.

My favourite part about a show this size is the incredible display of quilts and it is just so much fun to meet up with friends from all over Canada and take part in the festivities. This year I'll be taking my Part III Quilt Judge Certification test so wish me luck! I'll also be doing on the spot interviews, book signings, checking out the vendors, events, dinners and more. So this week on Episode # 71 of the CQT Podcast I'll start things off a few months early by giving you a preview of what to expect for this year's CQA/ACC 2015 National Juried Show.

Tuesday Preview CQT 70 - Shannon Smith

Happy Tuesday everyone! Join me this week on Canadian Quilt Talk for my 70th episode as I interview Shannon Smith. Her blog is called The Finished Garment - A Sewing, Quilting and Stitching Blog from Montreal.

Shannon is a Canadian sewing and quilting blogger living in Montreal. She’s been sewing since she was a child, but started blogging her sewing and modern quilting projects at The Finished Garment almost two years ago. In real life, she runs a web design company called Cafe Noir Designs, advocates for a more socially just web, and is the mother of four kids eight and under. I came across her BIG LISTS online which are a fabulous resource for quilters and I wanted to share them with you.

An example of one of Shannon's BIG LISTS

And the Quilter’s Corner winner today is YVETTE SITTER! And I was so excited to see her story originally come in a few months ago because I have met Yvette. She was a scribe for me last year when I judged the Regina Quilt Show. It was truly one of the best run quilt shows I have ever worked at teaching or judging. They hired plenty of judges to handle the size of show and treated us all like queens. It was so much fun!

The prize this week is a fat quarter bundle from Northcott Silk Inc. They are also sponsoring the quilt cruise. Northcott Fabrics are famous to quilters for their Stonehenge Collections. Look for OH CANADA - the latest Stonehenge collection at your local quilt shop. Designed by renowned artist Linda Ludovico, Oh Canada brings the Canadian theme into beautifully detailed textures.
