CQT Episode 19 - The Community Quilter

This week's episode continues with a topic I touched on in Episode 12 that is so near and dear to my heart - Quilting with a Younger Generation. If you liked that topic, watch for my article in the next CQA newsletter called 8 Tips for Quilting with a Youthful Generation.

I made a promise - so here it is! On this week's podcast I'll dive deeper into that topic. I am so passionate about sharing quilting with a younger generation that it is written right into the core values of my business. So be sure to listen this week when I take that topic further than just teaching family and friends and talk about ways to share quilting with a younger generation of quilters in your COMMUNITY!

This photo is of a tiny landscape quilt that my young student Sophia made. It is all hand stitched.  She was the only child in a class of 15 that included her mom and grandmother. It was so heartwarming to have 3 generations in my class together. Fast forward a few weeks and you can imagine my pleasant surprise to see her fibre art piece proudly shown in the Summerland Fall Fair with her first place ribbon.

So beyond inspiring a new generation of quilting in your circle of family and friends - there are a ton of ways you can get out in to the community and spread the word that quilting is here to stay. And for me the # 1 way is to teach a child or to teach a quilter to teach a child.

Canadian Quilt Talk Episode 12 - Quilting - A Shared Tradition

We had a family of 5 for dinner a few days ago and it somehow turned into a quilter's show and tell and I did not start anything! One of the girls saw a soft minky quilt on the couch and the next thing you know, my son was suddenly hauling out all the quilts that I had made for him and his Babcia had made for him and the girls were thrilled. There is just something so heartwarming about your child or grand child showing a true appreciation for a handmade quilt. Here's his froggy quilt which is a round robin quilt, so each block is made by one of my dear friends from the In Stitches group back in Winnipeg. Very proud of this one. I miss them dearly since I moved away, so this one is so lovely to have as a reminder of our friendship.

Tuesday Preview - CQT Episode 11

Welcome to the Tuesday Preview. This week on episode 11 - I'll be talking all about the importance of labels. Quilt labels can range from a simple signature to several pages of detailed info, but no matter which way you draw it up a label is a MUST HAVE for any quilt.

Whether you've made a baby quilt, an art quilt or a bunch of placemats for your sister, a label can add great value to the person who owns the quilted item for years to come. 

Here's a quick and easy label made with permanent fabric pen and shiva paint sticks for a scrappy beach blanket that we used all summer at the beach.

Ricky Tims!

It's not every day that you get to snuggle up to a quilting icon for a quick photo. We are having a fabulous time at the all day Ricky Tims Master Class. I am blogging this during a 37 minute "butt break" where we get to stand and stretch while he changes from slides to a video. He is so hilarious my cheeks are tired from smiling.

The lectures are fantastic because they are an entertaining 90 min. of techniques and stories but it's not a class so you don't need a machine or supplies. You just get to sit back, relax and enjoy. 

These were the three daytime lectures: 

1. Caveman Meets Convergence

2. Rhapsody Quilts

3. I'm just a quilting Fool

And later on we enjoyed the musical evening and stories that inspire, which is the cherry on top.

Hi Everyone!

Well, that didn't work! All that work getting the word out the first episode and now I'm putting you in suspense! I'm so excited to have such a huge jump in subscribers lately all awaiting my very first podcast. Well, with a few growing pains, my upload was crummy because I chose a live radio format rather than a pre-recorded download format. The 2 minute test promo worked so well, but not so good for a full podcast. We are not quite live just yet!

Having said that - thank you for your patience! The first episode will be aired ASAP. I'm working on the new platform and will send out a blog, tweets, FBook and more so you won't miss a thing. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

For those of you about to send me a roast or toast to my little flub, bring it on! But also, thank you for your support! It's my fans, friends and colleagues that are the push behind making this happen. It's all a learning process and it only gets better from here.

I just wrote my very first newsletter on Mail Chimp. It was very easy and pretty fun actually. I sent it out to a few close people for review and it will go out to the masses later today! I am so tickled that you care about what I have to say every single week!

I think they deserve to advertise on my newsletter because I am using the free Mail Chimp service and it's so easy and fun. More to come next week!
